1. Introduction

Enlightenment Education Limited is committed to conducting business ethically, responsibly and with integrity. We recognise our responsibility to prevent modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour, bonded labour and all forms of exploitation within our business and supply chains.

We maintain a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery and are committed to acting professionally, fairly and transparently in all business dealings.

2. Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to:

Set out Enlightenment Education Limited’s commitment to preventing modern slavery and human trafficking.
Outline the responsibilities of employees, contractors, suppliers and business partners.
Provide guidance on identifying and reporting concerns relating to modern slavery.
Ensure compliance with the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and other relevant legislation.

3. Scope

This policy applies to:

Directors
Employees
Temporary workers
Contractors and consultants
Suppliers and service providers
Business partners
Any individual working on behalf of Enlightenment Education Limited

4. Our Commitment

5. Understanding Modern Slavery

Modern slavery can take many forms, including:

Human trafficking
Forced or compulsory labour
Bonded labour
Debt bondage
Domestic servitude
Child labour where illegal or exploitative
Labour exploitation through coercion, threats or abuse

Modern slavery is a criminal offence and a violation of fundamental human rights.

6. Risk Assessment and Due Diligence

Enlightenment Education Limited will take reasonable and proportionate steps to identify and assess potential risks of modern slavery within our operations and supply chains.

This may include:

Reviewing supplier relationships
Conducting due diligence on new suppliers and contractors
Assessing employment practices and labour standards
Investigating concerns raised through internal or external reporting channels
Reviewing business activities where risks may be higher

Where risks are identified, appropriate mitigation measures will be implemented.

7. Recruitment and Employment Practices

We are committed to fair and lawful recruitment practices and will:

Verify the identity and right to work of all employees and workers.
Ensure recruitment processes are transparent and lawful.
Prohibit the charging of recruitment fees that could lead to debt bondage.
Ensure workers retain control of their own identity documents.
Provide clear employment contracts and terms of engagement.
Pay workers in accordance with applicable legislation and contractual obligations.

8. Supplier Expectations

All suppliers, contractors and business partners are expected to:

Comply with all applicable laws relating to modern slavery and human trafficking.
Maintain ethical employment practices.
Take appropriate steps to prevent exploitation within their own supply chains.
Cooperate with any reasonable requests for information relating to compliance.
Notify Enlightenment Education Limited of any actual or suspected incidents of modern slavery.

Failure to meet these expectations may result in termination of the business relationship.

9. Employee Responsibilities

All employees and representatives of Enlightenment Education Limited are responsible for:

Reading and understanding this policy.
Remaining vigilant to signs of modern slavery and exploitation.
Reporting any concerns immediately.
Cooperating with investigations where required.
Completing relevant training where provided.

10. Reporting Concerns

Any person who suspects modern slavery, human trafficking or exploitation is occurring within our business or supply chain should report their concerns immediately.

Concerns may be raised directly with the Directors or through the company’s Complaints and Whistleblowing procedures.

Reports will be treated seriously, sensitively and, wherever possible, confidentially.

No individual will suffer retaliation or detriment for raising a genuine concern in good faith.

11. Investigation and Remediation

Where concerns are raised, Enlightenment Education Limited will:

Conduct an appropriate investigation.
Take immediate action where necessary to protect affected individuals.
Work with suppliers or partners to address identified issues.
Report concerns to relevant authorities where appropriate.
Terminate relationships with organisations that fail to address serious breaches.

We are committed to taking effective action to prevent recurrence and improve standards where issues are identified.

12. Training and Awareness

Enlightenment Education Limited will provide appropriate information, guidance and training to employees where necessary to help them:

Understand modern slavery risks.
Recognise warning signs.
Understand reporting procedures.
Support ethical business practices.

13. Monitoring and Review

This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if required by changes in legislation, business operations or identified risks.

Alex Alton and Heather Beevers, as Directors of Enlightenment Education Limited, retain overall responsibility for ensuring compliance with this policy and promoting ethical business practices throughout the organisation.
